I've seen those

Not about cats, but I've seen similar emails show up on the debian-private email list asking a bunch of basic questions about linux.

The sad thing is that while your email was probably written by someone at most 13 years old, the "do my work for me" type emails that hit debian-private are invariably written by college students or (occasionally) people seeking those answers for their job. Generally, it's not technical how-do-I-do-it questions they want answered, but rather answers that will be useful in a high-level "compare and contrast" report about business practices, and are asking questions about how Debian does things that don't really make sense for a volunteer organization. (include here a snarky comment about the difference between IS majors and CS majors)

There's a kind of ignorant selfishness which might be excuseable in a child - though the child should still be corrected - but which in an adult is surely the sign of being a general all-around jerk.

Simple answer: http://www.google.com

I've taken to asking google where my socks are in the morning.

If I had an extra ten minutes I'd be strongly tempted to make up answers that amused me.

Cats have the proportional danger sense, strength and leaping ability of a cat. They actually prefer Coca Cola to water or milk--they find the deep brown color irresistible. A cat is pregnant if, within a few months, it gives birth to a litter of kittens.

1. Can cats see in color?
I don't know. Ask them?

2. How can you tell if cats are pregnant?
Because they look it.

3. How do cats get pregnant?
They have sex.

4. Are cats smarter than dogs?
They probably think so.

5. Why do cats purr?
Because they feel like it.

6. Why do cats "meow"?
Because they can.

7. Are cats faster than dogs?
Depends on the cat. Depends on the dog.

8. Why do cats prefer milk to water?
Wouldn't you prefer something fresh out of the fridge over something
that has been sitting in the toilet/on the floor for hours?

9. Can cats be leash-trained?
Can people?

10. Do cats loose teath?
Cats loosen many things in their life. However I don't know what a "teath" is. Does it have something to do with a hot beverage made out of Earl Grey or Black Oolong dried leaves? Please explain further.

11. Why do cats like to eat grass?
Because it tastes good to them.

12. Can cats get a common cold?
If they are suseptible to it.

13. Can cats get lice?
I don't see why not.

14. Can cats sense danger?
This is one of those questions you'd have to ask the cat.

15. Can they see in the dark?
Depends how dark it is.

Woo-hoo! Let's hear it for the smart-ass patrol...

how DO cats get pregnant? is there some trick i did not know about? i know that the ... ahem ... unusual ... anatomy of the male cat is supposed to stimulate ovulation ... or am i reading WAY too far into it?

on a related note ... did you take the "playful kitten" meme?

[identity profile] ambar.livejournal.com 2004-05-31 10:12 pm (UTC)(link)
Yeah, cats are what are known as "reflex ovulators" -- unlike in most mammals, they don't ovulate without penetration. As for the rest, they take advantage of the unusually flexible feline spine, so the male is rotating his pelvis forward in order to achieve penetration.

Didn't do that meme, I don't think.

thanks for the info. wow. cats are kinda cool. i am still a dog person i think. oh well.

yeah that meme was all like "what animal best describes your sexual attitude" or something. everyone i know got "playful kitten" except one girl who got "gazelle" because i guess she likes to give guys the runaround.
